Neural Network alternatives: how do people learn this?

There are three common ways to build intuition for neural networks: play in a browser, write code from scratch, or read. Neural Network is a fourth — a visualized lab and editor that travels with you. Here is the honest comparison.

The honest trade-off

Code from scratch remains the deepest path — if you can implement backpropagation yourself, nothing about the mechanics is a mystery to you. Neural Network does not replace that; it makes the path to it shorter by building the intuition first, and it covers the moments when you are not at a computer. The editor's real-time per-step output and its error display (parameter/input type and value compatibility) exist precisely to teach what the code would have taught you — faster.
